Former Director, Ground Water Resources Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh,

addressed the students of Bachelor of Arts this morning on the topic “Nadhulu & Nagarikathalu,” offering valuable insights on water resources, urban development, and sustainable management.

15-11-2025- SWARNA ANDHRA- SWACHA ANDHRA- PERSONAL AND COMMUNITY HYGIENE PROGRAMME

As directed by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, today being the third Saturday, Andhra Loyola College (Autonomous), Vijayawada, undertook the initiative of Swarna Andhra, Swachha Andhra, and Swachha Loyola with a special focus on Personal and Community Hygiene, emphasizing the importance of an Open-Defecation-Free (ODF) environment

Under the able guidance of our Vice Principal, Dr. B. Sivakumari, the programme was conducted successfully, creating awareness among students about cleanliness, sanitation, and responsible civic behaviour.

We extend our sincere thanks to Rev. Fr. Dr. K. Prabhudoss, our Vice principal, Dr L Subha, Dean Student Activities,  Dr.K. Anuradha, Head,Department of Maths,Dr A  Madhuri, Former Head, Business Administration and Ms Sk. Rev. Fr. Dr. Y. T. Prabhu, Bursar, Andhra Loyola Institutions, Vijayawada, along with Vice Principal Dr. B. Siva Kumari, Librarian Dr. G. Prasad Rao, Dr. K Sujatha, Physical Director Dr. Samuel Dayakar, Dr. R. John, Madam D. Uma Kumari, and Mr. G. Shravan Kumar, took the pledge as part of the “Swarna Andhra, Swachha Andhra – Swachha Loyola Program.”

As part of the initiative, students were sensitized on the theme “Monsoon Hygiene” highlighting the importance of maintaining cleanliness and health during the rainy season.

22-07-2025- MENDELS DAY CELEBRATIONS

 On the eve of Mendel's day, on 22nd July, 2025, the Depts. of Botany and Zoology organized an invited talk on "Mendel's Legacy and Plant Biotechnology. Rev. Fr. Dr. S. Emmanuel, SJ was the invited speaker, he explained the need and importance of innovative technologies to improve the crop plants and also explored the  Mendel's expierience in Genetics.

Dr.T. Rose Mary, Ms. Sandhya sri, HoDs of Botany and Zoology respectively, faculty members and 145 students from biological sciences  participated in this programme

22-01-2025 - INVITED TALK ON "RECENT ADVANCES IN MOLECULAR BIOLOGY."

The Department of Botany organized a guest lecture on 22nd January 2025, which was well-attended by students and faculty members. The event featured Dr. Nadeem Siddiqui, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology, KL University, as the esteemed resource person.

Dr. Siddiqui delivered an insightful lecture on the topic, "Recent Advances in Molecular Biology." During his session, he discussed cutting-edge advancements in the field, focusing on:

  • CRISPR-Cas9 Technique: A revolutionary tool for gene editing.
  • Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) Technology: Its applications in genomics and research.
  • Stem Cell Advancements: Their potential in medical science and regenerative therapies.

The lecture was attended by first and second-year B.Sc. Botany and Zoology students, along with faculty members. Dr. T. Rose Mary, Head of the Department of Botany, Dr. B. Siva Kumari, and Rev. Fr. Dr. G. Jaya Raj were present at the event, contributing to its academic environment.

The session provided students with a deeper understanding of molecular biology and its current innovations, encouraging them to explore its applications in their future studies and research endeavors. 21-01-2025 - SCOPE OF MICROBES IN HEALTH AND WEALTH

 The Department of Botany organized an engaging invited talk on 21st January 2025 for first-year B.Sc. Botany  students. The guest speaker for the event was Dr. K. Balachandra, Head of the Department of Microbiology, Andhra Loyola College.

Dr. Balachandra delivered an insightful presentation on the topic, "Scope of Microbes in Health and Wealth." His lecture covered the following key points:

  • Discovery and classification of various types of microbes.
  • Role of microbes in:
    • Fermentation processes.
    • Food Industry applications.
    • Biotechnology advancements.
    • Bioremediation techniques for environmental management.
  • Recent advancements in microbiology and their practical implications.
  • Opportunities for higher education and research in microbiology.
  • The future scope and potential of microbial studies in various fields.

Dr. K. Balachandra also interacted with students, addressing their questions and clarifying doubts on topics related to microbiology and its applications. His engaging and informative session provided students with a broader perspective on the importance of microbes in various domains of science and industry. The program was attended by the first-year B.Sc. Botany Major students and faculty member Dr. B. Siva Kumari.
