MENDELS DAY CELEBRATIONS
On the occasion of Mendel’s Day, the Departments of Botany and Zoology organized an invited talk on “Mendel’s Legacy and Plant Biotechnology” on 22 July 2025 at Andhra Loyola College (Autonomous), Vijayawada. Rev. Fr. Dr. S. Emmanuel, SJ, was the invited speaker.
The speaker highlighted the pioneering contributions of Gregor Johann Mendel to genetics and explained the relevance of his principles to modern biological sciences. He emphasized the importance of innovative biotechnological approaches in crop improvement and their potential to enhance crop productivity, quality, and adaptability.
Dr. T. Rose Mary, HoD, Botany, Dr. B. Siva Kumari senior faculty member in Botany and Ms. Sandhya Sri, HoD, Zoology, along with faculty members, participated in the programme. A total of 145 students from Biological Sciences attended and benefited from the informative session. The programme enhanced students’ understanding of Mendel’s contributions and the applications of modern biotechnology in agriculture.
