09- 07- 2024 - HANDS ON TRAINING PROGRAMME ON MUSHROOM CULTIVATION

 The Department of Botany, Andhra Loyola College (Autonomous), Vijayawada, organized a One-Day Workshop-cum-Hands-on Training Programme on Mushroom Cultivation on 9th July 2024 at Tanusri Training Centre, in collaboration with Tanusree Mushrooms, Vijayawada, for III B.Sc. DZ/DB students as part of the curriculum.

A total of 22 students actively participated in the programme. Dr. B. Siva Kumari, Head, Department of Botany, Andhra Loyola College, and Mr. T. Jaya Chandra served as the resource persons.

The resource persons explained the importance and nutritional value of mushrooms, various cultivation techniques, substrate preparation, sterilization methods, spawn inoculation, maintenance of growing conditions, harvesting techniques and marketing strategies. The students were also provided with hands-on training in different stages of mushroom cultivation, enabling them to gain practical knowledge and firsthand experience.

The programme aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application while creating awareness about mushroom cultivation as a sustainable, income-generating and entrepreneurial activity.

06-07-2024- INSTITUTIONAL VISIT - K.L UNIVERSITY

The Department of Botany, Andhra Loyola College (Autonomous), Vijayawada, organized a one-day institutional visit to KL University on 6th July 2024 for Third-Year B.Sc. students with the objective of exploring emerging areas in Biotechnology and gaining exposure to advanced laboratory facilities and research activities.

During the visit, the students, accompanied by Rev. Fr. G. Jayaraj and 21 students, visited various laboratories at KL University. They were introduced to different laboratory facilities, advanced instruments, research methodologies and practical applications in various fields of Biotechnology.

The visit provided students with an opportunity to understand the scope of modern biotechnological research beyond the conventional classroom and laboratory curriculum. It also helped them gain awareness of recent developments, interdisciplinary research opportunities and potential career prospects in Biotechnology and related life sciences.

The interaction and firsthand observation of laboratory facilities enriched the students' academic knowledge and motivated them to explore higher education and research opportunities in emerging biotechnological fields.
