Plantation Programme Organized by the Department of Botany

Vijayawada, April 7, 2026: The Department of Botany, Andhra Loyola College (Autonomous), Vijayawada, organized a Plantation Programme on the college campus to promote environmental sustainability and awareness among students.

The Chief Guest, Rev. Fr. Ignasimuthu, SJ, Rector, St. Xavier’s College, Palayamkottai, addressed the students on the ecological significance of plantation and sustainable environmental practices. He planted a pomegranate sapling and highlighted the nutritional and health benefits of fruits, particularly their role in supporting immunity and cardiovascular health. He also emphasized the importance of higher education and research in addressing contemporary societal and environmental challenges.

Students from the Degree and Intermediate sections actively participated in the programme. Rev. Fr. Dr. S. Melchior, SJ, Principal; Rev. Fr. K. Kiran Kumar, SJ, Vice Principal; Dr. M. Srinivas Reddy, Vice Principal; Dr. B. Siva Kumari, Vice Principal; Dr. T. Rose Mary, HoD, Department of Botany; Dr. Sahaya Baskaran; Dr. N. Francis Xavier; Dr. G. S. Prasad Rao, Librarian; and Dr. Roja Mani were present and encouraged the students to promote environmental conservation.

The programme reinforced the importance of plantation, environmental stewardship, healthy living, higher education and scientific research.
