25-09-2026- Awareness Programme on First Aid and CPR Training

 Andhra Loyola College (Autonomous), Vijayawada-8, through the Department of Botany, in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), NTR District, organized an Awareness Programme on First Aid and CPR Training on 25 September 2026.

The programme was held from 10:45 A.M. to 11:45 A.M. at the Old Computer Lab. Dr. G. Samaram, Chairman, Indian Red Cross Society, NTR District, served as the resource person.

The programme aimed to create awareness among students about the importance of first aid, basic emergency care, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). The resource person explained the essential steps to be followed during medical emergencies and demonstrated the basic procedure of CPR. The session emphasized the importance of responding quickly and appropriately to save lives during critical situations.

The programme was useful and informative, equipping students with basic knowledge and confidence to respond effectively during emergencies. The programme ended with the vote of thanks proposed by Dr. B. Siva Kumari

23-09-2026- ONE DAY WORKSHOP ON CULTURE AND CULTIVATION OF SPIRULINA- SUPER FOOD

 One-Day Workshop on “Culture and Cultivation of Spirulina – Super Natural Food” 

The programme was organised by the Departments of Botany, Agriculture & Rural Development, in collaboration with Varahi Spirulina Manufactures Unit, on the eve of World Ayurvedic Day. The workshop aimed to create awareness among students about the nutritional importance, culture and cultivation practices, and applications of Spirulina as a natural food source.

The programme began with the welcome address by Rev. Fr. Dr. Y.T. Prabu, SJ, Secretary of AL institutions, followed by Dr. B. Siva Kumari, Vice Principal – I U.G., introduced the workshop and highlighted its significance.

Chiruvolu Shanmukha Vamsi, the resource person, conducted the technical session and provided practical insights into the culture and cultivation of Spirulina, including its growth, maintenance and potential applications. The hands-on exposure at the Botany Laboratory helped students understand the cultivation process more effectively.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Kranthi Kumar, while Dr. G. Ramesh served as the Master of Ceremonies. The workshop was informative and practical, enhancing students’ knowledge of Spirulina cultivation, nutrition, sustainable food production and entrepreneurial opportunities.

16-09-2026- WORLD OZONE DAY CELEBRATIONS

World Ozone Day and  “Wealth from the Waste”

Andhra Loyola College (Autonomous), Vijayawada, organized a World Ozone Day programme on “Wealth from the Waste” as part of its Environmental Awareness Programme, under the theme “Nature Is Our Future—Save It!”

The programme was organized by the Department of Botany, NSS, NGC, Eco Club and IQAC, along with the Ecology Commission of Andhra Pradesh/Telangana Jesuit Province and Xavier Board, in collaboration with the CSIR Project and Praja Pragati Trust.

The programme highlighted the importance of protecting the ozone layer, reducing plastic pollution, and promoting the 3Rs—Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. The invited talk explained how plastic waste can be responsibly recycled and converted into useful products.

As part of the initiative, Praja Pragati Trust, in association with Kia, collected plastic waste from different parts of Vijayawada and recycled it into durable benches. A few recycled plastic benches were handed over to Andhra Loyola College for use on the campus, demonstrating the practical concept of “Waste into Wealth.”

The programme encouraged students to become responsible ambassadors of environmental conservation and concluded with a call for collective action to reduce plastic pollution and protect the environment for future generations.
