28-08-2026- Traffic Rules and Road Safety: Awareness for a Safer Tomorrow

 Andhra Loyola College (Autonomous), Vijayawada-8, organized an Awareness Programme on “Traffic Rules and Road Safety: Awareness for a Safer Tomorrow” 

The programme aimed to create awareness among students about traffic rules, road safety, responsible driving, helmet and seat-belt usage, avoiding mobile phones while driving, preventing overspeeding, and the dangers of drunk driving.

 Rev. Fr. M. Arul Jothi, SJ, II U.G. Vice Principal, shared their valuable messages with the students.

The resource persons I. Navya, Traffic Engineer – ASTRAM App; Y. Ravi Kumar, Traffic CI, V Traffic Police Station; P. Venkata Durga Prasad, Safety Riding Coordinator; and Mohamad Ali, Motor Vehicle Inspector, sensitized the students on traffic regulations and safe road practices. They emphasized that responsible road behaviour can prevent accidents and save precious lives.

The programme was organized by the Departments of Botany, Physical Education and IQAC of Andhra Loyola College in collaboration with the Department of Traffic and RTO, Vijayawada.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. B. Siva Kumari, I U.G. Vice Principal. The awareness programme was informative and impactful, encouraging students to become responsible road users and ambassadors of road safety.

27-08-2026- One-Day Hands-on Workshop on Essential Instrumentation in Plant Sciences

 Andhra Loyola College (Autonomous), Vijayawada | August 27, 2026

The Departments of Botany and Biotechnology, Andhra Loyola College (Autonomous), organised a One-Day Hands-on Workshop on “Essential Instrumentation in Plant Sciences” on August 27, 2026, at the Biotechnology Laboratory, South Block. The workshop was organised specifically for the first-year students of Botany and Biotechnology, with the objective of introducing them to the fundamentals and practical applications of essential instruments used in plant science and biotechnology laboratories.

The programme provided students with an opportunity to gain practical exposure to laboratory instrumentation and understand the importance of scientific instruments in biological research. The hands-on nature of the workshop enabled the students to connect their classroom learning with practical laboratory applications and develop greater confidence in handling scientific equipment.

The programme was graced by the presence of the Vice Principals, Rev. Fr. Arul Jothi and Dr. B. Siva Kumari. The Heads of the Departments, Dr. T. Rosemary, HoD, Department of Botany, and Mrs. S. Srilakshmi, HoD, Department of Biotechnology, were also present and encouraged the students to make the best use of the practical learning opportunity.

The workshop served as an effective platform for the first-year students to familiarise themselves with essential laboratory instrumentation and appreciate its role in modern plant sciences, biotechnology and research. The initiative reflected the commitment of the Departments of Botany and Biotechnology towards promoting experiential learning, scientific skills and research-oriented education among students.

The workshop concluded on a positive note, with students gaining valuable practical exposure and a deeper understanding of the significance of instrumentation in biological sciences.

Motivational Talk Inspires First-Year Students at Andhra Loyola College

VIJAYAWADA, August 24: Andhra Loyola College (Autonomous), Vijayawada, organised a motivational talk for first-year students on Monday on the theme “Your First Year, Your Foundation, Your Future.” The programme was organised by the Departments of Biological Sciences in collaboration with CSB-IAS Academy.

The programme began with words of welcome by Rev. Fr. M.Arul Jyothi SJ.

 Ms. M. Bala Latha, Director, CSB-IAS Academy, was the invited speaker.

Addressing the students, Ms. Bala Latha emphasised that “Your destiny is made by you and your destiny is decided by you.” She shared her inspiring journey of preparing for and clearing the UPSC Civil Services examination. Recalling her father, a Loyola alumnus who stayed at Goggineneni Hostel, she said he taught her courage and determination.

She highlighted the importance of Loyola education and provided valuable career guidance, urging students to use their next three years effectively. Sharing how she achieved success despite being physically challenged, she encouraged students to overcome limitations, believe in themselves and pursue their goals with determination.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Rev. Fr. M. Arul Jothi, SJ, II U.G. Vice Principal, while Dr. B. Siva Kumari, Vice Principal (I U.G.) organised the programme and served as Master of Ceremonie

07-08-2026- ONE DAY ORIENTATION FOR NCSC SELECTED SCHOOL TEACHERS

 National Children’s Science Congress – 2026 DISTRICT LEVEL ORIENTATION

“Science and Innovation for Sustainability”

A One-Day Orientation Programme for NTR District Science Teachers was organized on 07 August 2026 (Friday) at Mummadi Hall, Andhra Loyola College (Autonomous), Vijayawada, in collaboration with the Department of School Education, Department of Botany and Chemistry, and IQAC of Andhra Loyola College, with the support of the Department of Science & Technology, Government of Andhra Pradesh.

The programme was organized to orient and motivate teachers towards the National Children’s Science Congress (NCSC) 2026 and to promote scientific thinking, innovation, research-based learning, and sustainability among school students. Around 300 selected Science teachers from Government and Private schools actively participated in the programme. All Mandal Educational Officers (MEOs) and District Science Officers (DSOs) were also present and extended their support to the programme.

The programme commenced with a Prayer Song, followed by the Welcome Address by Rev. Fr. Arul Jothi, SJ, II Vice Principal, Andhra Loyola College. Rev. Fr. Dr. A. Francis Xavier, SJ, Correspondent, Andhra Loyola College, and Mrs. I. Chandrakala, District Educational Officer (DEO), NTR District, delivered their messages and encouraged teachers to actively promote scientific investigation and innovation among children.

The Theme of the Day was presented by the resource persons Dr. B. Siva Kumari, I Vice Principal, Andhra Loyola College, and Dr. B. Bala Karuna Kumar, Dept. of Chemistry,ALC  highlighting the importance of Science and Innovation for Sustainability and encouraging teachers to guide students in identifying local problems and developing innovative, sustainable solutions. 

The importance of NCSC and INSPIRE explained by Dr. M.ynum Hussain, State Academic Coordinator, NCSC–2026. The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Sri. Picheswara Rao, DSO, NTR DT., NCSC–2026.

Overall, the orientation programme served as an effective platform for capacity building of Science teachers, strengthening scientific temper among students, and encouraging innovative projects addressing environmental, social, health, and sustainability-related challenges. The active participation of approximately 300 teachers, along with MEOs and DSOs, contributed significantly to the success of the programme.

06-08-2026- FRESHES DAY CELEBRATIONS

Freshers’ Day Programme – Department of Botany

The Department of Botany, Andhra Loyola College (Autonomous), Vijayawada, organized a Freshers’ Day Programme for the newly joined First Year students on 06 August 2026 at the Botany Laboratory.

The programme was organized to warmly welcome the new students and provide them with an opportunity to interact with the faculty and senior students in a friendly and encouraging atmosphere. Dr. Rose Mary, Head of the Department of Botany, Dr. B. Siva Kumari, Vice Principal, along with senior faculty members Mrs. S. Sailaja, Dr. G. Ramesh, and Dr. Kranthi Kumar, actively participated in the programme.

The Second Year Botany students also took an active role in organizing and participating in the celebrations. The programme provided a valuable opportunity for interaction, bonding, and sharing of experiences between senior and junior students.

The event was conducted in a joyful and welcoming atmosphere, helping the First Year students feel comfortable and develop a sense of belonging to the Department of Botany and the Loyola family.

          

 

ORIENTATION PROGRAMME FOR FIRST YEAR STUDENTS -20-07-2026 TO 25-07-2026

BRIEF REPORT ON THE ONE-WEEK ORIENTATION AND BRIDGE COURSE PROGRAMME FOR FIRST-YEAR DEGREE STUDENTS 

 

Andhra Loyola College (Autonomous), Vijayawada-8 Andhra Loyola College (Autonomous), Vijayawada-8, organized a One-Week Orientation and Bridge Course Programme for First-Year Degree Students from 20th to 25th July 2026. The programme was designed to warmly welcome the newly admitted students, familiarize them with the college environment, academic system, facilities, rules and regulations, and provide them with opportunities for personal, professional and holistic development. 

 Inauguration – 20th July 2026 The programme commenced on 20th July 2026 at Fr. Devaiah Auditorium with a formal Orientation Programme. The inaugural session included the Brief History of Loyola College by Dr. G. Sahaya Baskaran, Prayer Song, Prayer Dance, Lighting of the Lamp and Blessings by Rev. Fr. G. Rayappa, SJ, In-Charge Rector. The Welcome Address was delivered by Rev. Fr. Dr. S. Melchior, SJ, Principal, followed by greetings from Rev. Fr. Dr. A. Francis Xavier, SJ, Correspondent, and wishes by Dr. G. Sahaya Baskaran, Chairman, ALC Staff Association. The programme was graced by Ms. K. Lasya Chandrika, Probationary Officer, SBI, and Sri M. Sambasiva Rao, IRPFS, Retd. Divisional Security Commissioner, Indian Railways, as the esteemed guests. Dr. B. Siva Kumari, Vice Principal (I UG), addressed the students on the Code of Conduct, discipline, attendance, punctuality, academic responsibilities and other important guidelines. The session concluded with the Vote of Thanks by Rev. Fr. M. Arul Jyothi, SJ, Vice Principal (II UG), followed by the National Anthem. Highlights of the Week-Long Programme 

20th July 2026 – Departmental Interaction and Campus Visit The afternoon session comprised Departmental Interaction and Campus Visits, enabling students to become familiar with their respective departments, classrooms, laboratories, library and other important facilities of the college. 

21st July 2026 – Communication and Soft Skills The students attended Communication Skills sessions conducted by the Department of English at Fr. Devaiah Auditorium. The afternoon session on Soft Skills was handled by Dr. Sr. Candy D'Cunha, IQAC Coordinator and Dean of Student Affairs, ALIET. The session focused on personality development, interpersonal skills, communication and confidence building. 

22nd July 2026 – Communication Skills and Career Guidance The Communication Skills sessions continued during the morning. The afternoon session on Placement and Career Guidance was delivered by Sri K. Sridhar, P.B. Siddhartha College, Vijayawada. The session created awareness among students about career opportunities, employability skills and future professional prospects. 

 23rd July 2026 – Foundation Course and Motivational Sessions Students attended the Foundation Course conducted by their respective departments during the morning. The afternoon featured separate Motivational Talks for Boys and Girls. The session for boys was delivered by Rev. Fr. B. Bala Kumar, SJ, YES-J & Youth Director, ALC. The session for girls featured Ms. L.S.S.R. Pragna, Psychologist, Indlas Hospitals, and Ms. D. Sowjanya, Legal Counsellor, Women & Child Welfare Department. The sessions focused on self-confidence, responsible decision-making, personal well-being, safety, positive values and responsible citizenship. 

 24th July 2026 – Academic and Institutional Orientation The students continued with their Foundation Course in the morning. The afternoon sessions provided an orientation to various academic and institutional facilities. Rev. Fr. J. Vijay, SJ, Controller of Examinations, explained the examination system and related academic procedures. Dr. T. Raja Mani, Librarian, introduced the students to the library and its resources. Dr. P.V.S. Sairam, IQAC Coordinator, and Dr. N. Srinivasa Rao, Academic Secretary, provided information on the Course Structure and Curriculum. Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao addressed the students on CSP and CCLR, familiarizing them with important academic and student-support initiatives. 

 25th July 2026 – Co-Curricular and Student Development Activities The morning session introduced students to various co-curricular and student development activities. Captain N.L. Niranjan introduced the NCC Army Wing. Dr. R. John, Coordinator, provided information regarding NSS, NCC and Red Ribbon Club activities. Dr. G. Sahaya Baskaran, Coordinator, introduced HEPSN, while Dr. M. Chowdaiah, Sports Director, highlighted the importance of sports and physical activities. Rev. Fr. B. Bala Kumar, SJ, introduced students to YES-J and AICUF. The afternoon session concluded with the Foundation Course conducted by the respective departments. 

 Conclusion The One-Week Orientation and Bridge Course Programme successfully provided the newly admitted students with a comprehensive introduction to academic life, institutional values, examination procedures, curriculum, library facilities, career opportunities, communication and soft skills, student-support services, co-curricular activities and campus life. The programme placed special emphasis on discipline, punctuality, regular attendance, responsible behaviour, personal development and active participation in college activities. The motivational and interactive sessions conducted by distinguished resource persons and faculty members helped the students gain confidence, develop a positive outlook and understand their responsibilities as members of the college community. Attendance was made compulsory for all sessions, and the enthusiastic participation of the students contributed significantly to the success of the programme. Overall, the Orientation and Bridge Course Programme served as an effective platform for helping the First-Year Degree students make a smooth transition into college life and begin their academic journey at Andhra Loyola College (Autonomous), Vijayawada-8, with confidence, responsibility, discipline and enthusiasm. 

 

11-07-2026- FIELD VISIT TO MULAPADU BIODIVERSITY PARK.

 The Department of Botany, Andhra Loyola College (Autonomous), Vijayawada, organized an educational field visit to Mulapadu Biodiversity Park on 11th July 2026 for the Second Year B.Sc. Botany students. The visit was conducted to provide students with practical exposure to biodiversity, ecosystem conservation, and the identification of various plant and animal species.

All the Second Year Botany students actively participated in the field visit. The students were accompanied and guided by Dr. G. Ramesh, Faculty, Department of Botany, and Mr. P. Srinivasa Rao, Botany Attender, who ensured the smooth conduct of the programme.

During the visit, students observed a wide variety of indigenous plant species, medicinal plants, ornamental flora, aquatic ecosystems, birds, butterflies, and other wildlife. They gained firsthand knowledge of biodiversity conservation practices, habitat management, ecological balance, and the importance of protecting natural ecosystems. The students also interacted with the park authorities and learned about the conservation initiatives undertaken to preserve the rich biodiversity of the region.

The field visit enhanced the students' observational skills, strengthened their understanding of ecological concepts, and helped bridge the gap between classroom learning and practical field experience. The programme inspired the students to appreciate the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable management of natural resources.

Overall, the field visit was highly informative, educational, and successful in achieving its objectives. It provided an enriching learning experience and encouraged students to develop a deeper commitment towards biodiversity conservation and environmental protection.
