BRIEF REPORT ON THE ONE-WEEK ORIENTATION AND BRIDGE COURSE PROGRAMME FOR FIRST-YEAR DEGREE STUDENTS
Andhra Loyola College (Autonomous), Vijayawada-8, organized a One-Week Orientation and Bridge Course Programme for First-Year Degree Students from 20th to 25th July 2026. The programme aimed to familiarize newly admitted students with the college environment, academic system, facilities, rules and regulations, while promoting their personal, professional and holistic development.
The programme was inaugurated on 20th July 2026 at Fr. Devaiah Auditorium. The inaugural session included the Brief History of Loyola College by Dr. G. Sahaya Baskaran, Prayer Song, Prayer Dance, Lighting of the Lamp and Blessings by Rev. Fr. G. Rayappa, SJ, In-Charge Rector. Rev. Fr. Dr. S. Melchior, SJ, Principal, delivered the Welcome Address, followed by messages from Rev. Fr. Dr. A. Francis Xavier, SJ, Correspondent, and Dr. G. Sahaya Baskaran, Chairman, ALC Staff Association. Ms. K. Lasya Chandrika, Probationary Officer, SBI, and Sri M. Sambasiva Rao, IRPFS, Retd. Divisional Security Commissioner, Indian Railways, were the distinguished guests. Dr. B. Siva Kumari, Vice Principal (I UG), addressed students on discipline, attendance, punctuality, academic responsibilities and the Code of Conduct. Rev. Fr. M. Arul Jyothi, SJ, Vice Principal (II UG) proposed the Vote of Thanks.
During the week, students participated in departmental and campus visits, communication and soft-skills training, career guidance, Foundation Course, motivational sessions, academic and examination orientation, library orientation, curriculum awareness, CSP and CCLR, NCC, NSS, Red Ribbon Club, HEPSN, sports, YES-J and AICUF activities. The sessions were conducted by experienced faculty members and distinguished resource persons, including Dr. Sr. Candy D'Cunha, Sri K. Sridhar, Rev. Fr. B. Bala Kumar, SJ, Ms. L.S.S.R. Pragna, Ms. D. Sowjanya, Rev. Fr. J. Vijay, SJ, Dr. T. Raja Mani, Dr. P.V.S. Sairam, Dr. N. Srinivasa Rao, Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Captain N.L. Niranjan, Dr. R. John, Dr. M. Chowdaiah, and others.
The programme provided students with a comprehensive introduction to academic life, institutional values, career opportunities, student-support services and co-curricular activities. It successfully facilitated a smooth transition into college life and encouraged students to begin their academic journey with confidence, discipline, responsibility and enthusiasm.
